Sustainable Land Development Report

Phase 1: consists of a literature review and assessment of sustainable development options. It provides site selection criteria to determine the most appropriate site to trial development options in Phase 2. Phase 1 is a desk top study accompanied by liaisons with key agencies involved in the development and in the delivery of infrastructure and sustainability initiatives. An inter-agency Sustainable Development Steering Committee with representatives from the Department of Planning and Infrastructure, the Department of Environment, the Sustainable Energy Development Office, and the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Sustainability Policy Unit, examined over 120 sustainable development options.

Phase 2: The objective of the study is to set clear objectives, costs and benefits for a more economically, socially and environmentally sustainable land settlement model. The test site for the facilitated demonstration project is land owned by Land and Housing Development on Ranford Road, Forrestdale.. The site is 19 kilometres South by South East of the Perth Central Business District. The report is founded on the assumption that the design and servicing of cities and our survival are intimately related. Therefore any attempt at providing a sustainable future for ourselves and future generations, must be pursued through development of more sustainable cities now.
