GUIDELINES & PRACTICES

16. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age, with no upper limit on age.
16.1 Applicants of 17 years may make application and accrue time on the waiting list, but not receive an allocation until they turn 18 years of age.
16.2 Applicants between 16 and 18 years of age may be housed at the discretion of Regional Management, depending upon applicant’s need and circumstances (See DISCRETIONARY DECISION MAKING POLICY).
16.3 Applicants between 16 and 18 years who have a disability and have accommodation supports, should be referred to Community Housing.
16.4
Supporting Parents under 18 years of age may request special consideration to be given to their application for housing prior to turning 18 years of age. Approval to be made at the discretion of the Regional Manager, Manager Rental Services, Manager Customer Service, Assistant Regional Manager or Area Manager.
Assessing factors are:
  • Needs of the child
  • Homelessness
  • Support letters from doctor/community or government agencies
  • Income of applicant
  • Support available
17. A senior is classified as being 55 years or above or is the spouse of such a person.
17.1 This is based on the definition of the Retirement Villages Act (1992)
17.2 Where possible, applicants under 55 years of age should be listed for family or singles accommodation.
17.3 Where local authority R codes require occupants of seniors accommodation to be of a specific age, Homeswest will conform to the requirements.
