GUIDELINES & PRACTICES

9. Applicants must hold Australian citizenship or have permanent residency status and have a residential and postal address in Western Australia.
9.1 See 10. Bond policy, for variation for Bond Loan Assistance applicants.
Applicants Currently Living Interstate and Abroad
10. Applicants living in other states of Australia or in countries outside Australia, are not eligible to make application for assistance, regardless of any future intention to live in Western Australia.
10.1 Applications or tenancies in different Australian states are not transportable.
People without Citizenship or Residency Status
11. People without Citizenship or Residency status may make application for assistance and accrue time on the waiting list, provided that the time it takes to determine their status or end their period of support does not exceed the waiting time for their most preferred choices. However, they will not be allocated accommodation until their status has been determined and they become Australian citizens or permanent residents.
11.1 Example: Migrants with Assurances of Support, Asylum Seekers.

11.3 People without residency status are not eligible for a Centrelink benefit and are usually simple to identify because they have no source of income.
11.4 If there is any doubt concerning the status of a migrant, then the details of the visa stamp in passport can be given to DIMA and they will advise the status of person with such a visa stamp.

11.5 A Class 800 Territorial Asylum Visa provides migrants with permanent residency status, making them eligible for assistance. A Class 785 Temporary Protection Visa allows migrants a temporary stay of up to three years, making them eligible for bond assistance.
