Adara Apartments
Adara Apartments – 77 apartments over six storeys built in only 12 months

Housing Minister Colin Holt recently visited the Department's joint venture project Adara Apartments in Success to view firsthand the innovation that has made this development the first high-density modular residential building to be completed in the Perth metropolitan area.

Comprising 77 apartments over six storeys, the development reached practical completion in late December 2014. It showcases perfectly how the Department is taking the lead in transforming the land and housing market with effective partnerships.

"The Minister was impressed by what we have been able to achieve with this project," said Ian McGivern, Managing Director of Goodland Building Company.

"Goodland has already partnered the Department to successfully deliver Stage Two of the potentially 11-stage master planned Stella Village development.

"Adara is part of Stage Three that is the first of the higher density stages proposed for the site and consists of three buildings that will deliver 197 units in total.

"The project took a great deal of clever and detailed planning, design and building, and we had to ensure millimetre-perfect precision in the construction stage. Also, the efficiency of construction – only about 12 months – has not compromised the quality of the modules themselves."

The Department will purchase 14 units in Adara, of which six units would be allocated to social housing and eight units retained for affordable sale under a shared equity arrangement. This is in line with the aim of achieving 15 per cent affordability in all government residential developments.

"As part of our Strategic Plan 2020, we are partnering with the private sector to increase supply of housing and ensure developments have a high proportion of affordability," Director General Grahame Searle said.

"This project is a great example of how we are transforming the way we build to capture benefits for social housing and focussing on projects that are on the doorstep of transport, services and employment."

The Adara Apartment project is just 20 minutes from the CBD by train from the nearby station, and one stop away from the new Fiona Stanley Hospital and Murdoch University. The project was made possible through a private-public venture in which the Department is a major partner.
